Our Contribution--Hagrid's Hut!
So normally we don't play our own game, but this year we could not resist! Once we decided upon a theme, we went all out and tried our best at Hagrid's Hut. Steve was the architect and builder--I was in charge of figures and landscaping. The roof is after-eight mints--the stones on the hut are Hershey's drops and the chimney, chocolate covered almonds. Buckbeak and the pumpkins are marzipan. Royal icing binds everything together--including the coconut grass and pretzel logs. Everything in the scene is edible [it took a lot of convincing for our niece and nephews to refrain from eating it]. Steve fashioned out the pattern by hand first, and then constructed a cardboard mock up before we cut and baked the gingerbread. I think Steve's happiest with the roof--I'm very proud of my Buckbeak. You can see the various stages as well as some close-ups. We're not eligible for a prize but it was tons of fun to make. Took the better part of an afternoon and the following morning. We would totally do it again :).
